Artist Anne Marie Ploug
We are delighted that we currently are showing Anne Marie Ploug's five works: Linea Basis 1-5 in the flagship store in Copenhagen.
Danish artist Anne Marie Ploug brings the marginalized into focus through graphic and spatial experiments that open new perspectives and stories about body and nature. Her work investigates the unwanted, the crooked, and makes it a central motif. Ploug masters printmaking techniques and uses them to push the boundaries of the medium, creating sensory, physical works that develop a new visual language.
Q: What is the background of the artwork
A: The color is blue – a color often associated with systems and institutions –
and stands in contrast to the humble subject.
I try to print without using black – which is a classic technique in printmaking –
Blue has many shades and, like black, each tone has its own strength and can stretch far.
The blue diagonals form a pattern that resembles a system –
almost mathematical and infinite. But the system here – is a construction.
To me, it’s a commentary on how we constantly create systems and hierarchies –
in nature, in society, among people.
In this way, LINEA BASIS becomes a small, quiet punk project:
I use the visual language of the system itself – a beautiful, balanced, trustworthy system – to point out that it could be completely different.
Q: What do you think is missing in the art world right now:
A: In the context of art, I wish there were a stronger collective front – a broader debate focused on:
Power back to the artists!
Fully aware that historically, that hasn’t been the case – despite the fact that artists contribute to many good jobs, crafts, and experiences.
